in it for the season: the csa model
It's no secret that farming is unpredictable. The community-supported agriculture model allows community members to buy a "share" in a farm for the season and partake in the harvest each week. Members often reap the benefits of crops that perform unexpectedly well, and this model also provides a security net for farms that could otherwise be devastated by a natural disaster or onslaught of pests. CSAs are especially important for small farms that avoid using pesticides.
Why Join our CSA?
Get unbeatable deals on produce and flowers. If we have a surplus of a vegetable, CSA members are offered a double share of that item! Additionally, CSA members get exclusive discounts, such as bulk tomato orders for canning.
Choose your own flowers and vegetables right on the farm. While most CSAs come prepackaged with whatever is available that week, we're proud to offer a totally customizable box. You get to pick out everything you want for your CSA box each week to suit your own tastes. If you absolutely love carrots, for example, you could choose to get double or triple the usual number of carrots in your share!
Access unrivaled variety and freshness. Gain access to a dizzying array of super-fresh, locally grown vegetables and flowers every week! Everything on our CSA is grown right on our farm using natural, pesticide-free practices.
Enjoy our central location. Hungry Dog Farm is located just 10 minutes away from downtown Fort Wayne and 5 minutes away from Jefferson Pointe. We're lucky to be very close to central Fort Wayne (and to our members)!
Connect with your community. Our CSA pickups aren't just a transaction; they're a chance to socialize with us and with other members! See people you know, make new friends, and have a little chat as you select your goodies for the week. Many members bring the whole family to CSA pickup and turn it into a fun outing!
Visit the farm on pickup days, stroll around, smell the flowers, and see where your food is grown. We have 6.5 acres of lovely property that include hundreds of fruit tree saplings, a mature orchard, and a chicken enclosure as well as tons of flowers and vegetable beds. We're happy to let our members go on self-guided tours. Wear farm-friendly shoes, and feel free to bring your camera!
Try unusual and delicious produce. Ever tried sunchokes, kohlrabi, ground cherries, komatsuna, or celeriac? If not, you're missing out! We're always happy to provide guidance on how to use our veggies in cooking as well.
Get inspired by our weekly CSA email, which includes an overview of what we've been up to that week, a comprehensive list of what's available, recipes, and photos of our members' delectable culinary creations.
Feel good knowing you're eating healthy, local produce and supporting a small family farm right here in Fort Wayne.

why we love our csa members
CSA members form the backbone of Hungry Dog Farm's business model. Without our members, we wouldn't be able to weather the uncertainty and unpredictability that comes with farming. That's why we go out of our way to shower our CSA members in the best produce and flowers each week as well as extra goodies, incentives, and freebies. Be it a complementary Hungry Dog Farm bag at the beginning of the season or a celebratory watermelon at the end of one, we will always find ways to show our members how much we appreciate them.
csa financial assistance options
We understand that CSA memberships can be cost prohibitive, and we don't want finances to get in the way of those who want to live healthy, veggie-filled lives! That's why we offer two options for assistance at Hungry Dog Farm. After all, everyone deserves access to healthy, local food.
